Getting to know April Alvarez

It is my goal as a therapist to provide my clients with the utmost support during their most trying times. I have worked with children, adults, and families in crisis. Asking for help should not be seen as a weakness but as a strength, and being strong enough to recognize when you need emotional support to improve your quality of life is something to be proud of. I thoroughly enjoy building relationships with my clients while supporting them on their journey to becoming their best selves. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the University of Southern California, which has equipped me with a strong foundation to support diverse populations. My approach to therapy is client-centered, allowing for growth, healing, and understanding. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, as well as a Strengths-Based Approach. With over nine years of direct practice experience, I have worked in various settings, including hospital environments such as the Emergency Department, NICU, ICU, Oncology, Antepartum/Postpartum, Maternal Child Health, and outpatient Mental Health Crisis Clinics. I particularly enjoy working with families experiencing Postpartum Depression and Anxiety, as welcoming a child can be both overwhelming and stressful. I take pride in helping families navigate those first few weeks and months, providing support where needed. Additionally, I support families through infant and pregnancy loss and have experience treating individuals and families who have experienced stillbirth.
