April Mizell, LCMHC

Psychotherapist
NC
I am April Mizell, licensed in Mental Health Counseling in North Carolina. Sometimes, you just need someone to talk to who doesn’t know your past. We should make a connection and talk. I usually spend the beginning sessions getting to know you and what makes you tick. Then, we can do talk therapy to help you learn coping mechanisms and assist you in your healing process. I offer Christian therapy when requested and accept others unconditionally without pressure. I earned my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University, equipping me with skills to support clients effectively. My approach I use a Client-Centered approach and Narrative Therapy to help clients use their own thought processes to bring about change. I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Rational-Emotive Behavioral Therapy to counteract negative thought patterns. Additionally, I include some Dialectical Behavior Therapy to help clients “think before acting” by learning coping mechanisms. My focus I assist clients adjusting to environmental changes; experiencing social anxiety, various anxieties, or depression; struggling with communication; setting boundaries; and managing life’s stresses. My communication style I use humor when appropriate to brighten someone’s day and help clients see the positive. Many clients say they enjoy talking with me and feel they receive pertinent information to support change. I offer Christian counseling only if asked and never push the issue. My journey to mental healthcare I was drawn to therapy because people often came to me to discuss their lives, and I wasn’t upset by it. Instead, I wanted to learn how to help. What drives me? Seeing clients change and hearing they have fewer negative thoughts than when they started.
