Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Arlene! My name is Arlene Dunkelberger, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Saint Mary's College of California. My approach to therapy is collaborative because I believe the client-therapist relationship is essential to effective therapy. I focus on helping clients develop awareness and accountability for different parts of themselves, empowering them to make the changes they desire. My approach My theoretical foundation is rooted in Carl Rogers' Client-Centered therapy, which is nondirective. As a therapist, my role is to listen and encourage self-reflection, exploration, re-evaluation, problem-solving, or simply to create a safe space where difficult emotions and thoughts can be expressed. My focus I typically work with adolescents and young adults who experience anxiety and/or depression and struggle with low self-esteem, lack of motivation, isolation, worry, anxiety attacks, and other challenges related to life stressors. My communication style I have found that my communication style resonates well with adolescents and young adults. I am personable, relaxed, and caring. I sometimes incorporate humor but can easily empathize and connect with clients experiencing difficult feelings such as sadness and grief. My journey to mental healthcare I have always been a listener and a helper. I have witnessed myself and my loved ones grow up afraid to show or express emotion and hesitant to ask for help or advocate for themselves. These learned behaviors often carry into adulthood, manifesting as anxiety and depression. I enjoy being the person who holds a space where clients can be authentic, feel less alone, and be empowered without judgment. My goals for you I help clients identify realistic and achievable goals so we both understand what we're working toward in each session. Setting these goals is a collaborative process between client and therapist.
