Getting to know Arthur Kleinschmidt
Hello, I'm Art. Life is challenging, but I believe that true joy and happiness come from overcoming obstacles. Each person has a unique set of skills, talents, strengths, and attributes, and I see the therapeutic process as a journey of self-discovery and connection. My passion lies in helping people rediscover who they are and what they are capable of. Together, we can work towards a healthier, happier you.
In addition to my clinical work, I have had the privilege of serving at the highest level in the federal government. My roles included Deputy Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and Senior Policy Advisor in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), where I served as a subject matter expert for mental health and addiction.
I discovered my passion for helping others after finding recovery from substance abuse over 21 years ago. This personal journey has deeply informed my approach to therapy and my commitment to supporting others on their path to recovery and well-being.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in both Virginia and Colorado, a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) in Colorado, and a Licensed Drug & Alcohol Counselor (LADC) in Minnesota. Additionally, I am a Certified Addiction Specialist. My specialties include addiction, ADHD, adolescent and teen mental/behavioral health, anger management, antisocial behavior, anxiety, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, depression, family relationships, grief/bereavement, intimate/romantic relationships, life transitions, military/veteran support, narcissistic personality disorder, OCD, phobias, PTSD, sex/intimacy issues, somatic symptom disorder, spirituality, and trauma.
I am skilled in a multitude of therapeutic modalities and have years of experience in family counseling. My approach is tailored to meet the unique needs of each client, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment where you can feel safe to explore and grow.
