Getting to know Ayesha Youngblood

I'm a trauma-informed therapist in Houston with a Master's in Clinical Psychology from the University of Central Florida and a Bachelor's degree from Towson University. My training centers on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and shame resilience work — two very different tools for the same goal: helping you stop white-knuckling your way through anxiety, trauma responses, and the disorientation that comes with major life transitions. I work with clients who are tired of intellectualizing their pain in therapy without anything actually changing. My sessions are built for people who want both — the emotional depth to understand why they feel stuck, and concrete DBT skills they can use the same day.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You won't get a blank stare and "how does that make you feel." I bring structure to sessions without losing the emotional depth trauma work requires. Expect direct feedback, real skill-building (not just talking), and a therapist who tracks your progress instead of letting sessions blur together. If shame has been running the show in your relationships, your self-talk, or your decisions, that's specifically where my training in shame resilience comes in — I'll name the pattern instead of dancing around it. You set the goals; I bring the map.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Session one is a deep intake — not paperwork, an actual conversation about what's brought you in, what's already been tried, and what "better" would look like for you. From there, I build a plan combining DBT skills (distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness) with trauma-focused, shame-resilience work aimed at the root causes, not just the symptoms on the surface. Early sessions tend to focus on stabilization — giving you tools to get through the week — while later sessions go deeper into the patterns and history driving the anxiety or trauma response in the first place. You'll always know which phase we're in and why.
