Ben Savelli, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Ben! I'm a late-diagnosed autistic and ADHD (AuDHD) man — I received my diagnosis at 36 from a psychologist who is also self-disclosed autistic. Working with someone who shared that experience made a real difference in my own process of self-discovery and acceptance, and it's part of why I do this work now. My focus While I am open to working with all adults, my ideal client is likely neurodivergent, either officially diagnosed, self-diagnosed, or questioning whether they might be autistic. My ideal client has likely felt different than others, struggled to navigate our neurotypical-dominant world, dealt with anxiety/depression, and has sensory sensitivities. My approach One of my goals as an autistic therapist is to draw on my own lived experience to offer other neurodivergent individuals genuine understanding and support as they navigate a world that can often feel overwhelming or not built with them in mind. I would describe my therapeutic approach as eclectic, person-centered, and trauma-informed. My communication style I am an active listener, often spending more time listening to my clients than talking. My focus is on showing up without judgment. I sometimes share my lived experiences as an autistic individual when appropriate. My autistic traits of a strong memory and good pattern recognition abilities help me to give my clients insight and understanding. My journey to mental healthcare I received my autism diagnosis when I was 36, at a time in my life when I was struggling with my mental health. The diagnosis made so much of my existence make sense. The psychologist who diagnosed me disclosed that he was autistic, and it inspired me to do something similar for individuals like myself who need support. My goals for you For me, therapy is a collaborative process where we work together to determine what your goals are and how we will achieve them.
