Benjamin Friday, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Benjamin! Hello! My name is Ben Friday and I am an LMFT (#122263). I use a client-led approach to therapy, meaning that together we learn more about where your patterns came from and what might feel more helpful to you in the future. I love working with grief, trauma, and alternative lifestyles such as polyamory, the kink/BDSM communities, and use an LGBTQIA+ affirming style. I earned my Master’s in Counseling from California State University Long Beach, which laid the foundation for my diverse therapeutic approach. My approach I use an eclectic mix of Humanistic/Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Gestalt, and Solution Focused. I try to pull from various sources with the main goal of helping you feel understood and seen, using in-the-moment experiences to learn where emotional wounds still affect you today. My focus I work with anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief. I also enjoy interpersonal work and exploring attachment wounds in romantic relationships and family. Additionally, I work with alternative lifestyles, including people in the kink/BDSM communities and those engaging in polyamorous and ethically non-monogamous lifestyles. My communication style My communication style in therapy is soft, often non-directive, and exploratory. I use analogy and metaphor to help visualize and discuss difficult concepts while accessing emotions. Emotions act as our map to wounds and pressure points from our past; experiencing and understanding them in the present gives us new options for the future. My journey to mental healthcare Since high school, I wanted to be a child psychologist. I didn’t fully understand this at the time but eventually found my calling and passion. I can’t imagine doing anything else, and I love working with clients and feeling honored to be included in so many people’s lives.
