What should a new client know about working with you?

My name is Bonnie Morrisette-Hood. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I specialize in assisting people with change, challenge, crisis, self-care, and communication through the generations. It is critical for me to affirm, support, and, value all people regardless of race, gender, religion, or, age. I provide scientific evidence-based practices that are customized to the individual and their needs. I believe it is essential to form a trusting, professional, non-judgmental relationship for treatment alliance and success to occur. I believe in professionally and emphatically responding to mental health and substance abuse issues of all kinds. I have the ability to assist clients in forming realistic, measurable goals and how to reach those goals in a reasonable amount of time. The evidence-based practices that I use include but are not limited to Strength Based Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and Narrative Therapy. I believe everyone has a story to tell and that they need an unbiased active listener to hear them. When I am able to hear someone’s story I can help them in developing goals for themselves in a way that promotes their self-esteem and self-confidence. I believe most people know somewhere in their minds what they need to do and change. They need a safe environment in order to express these and to understand that all of their goals are achievable. I view my job as an active listener and educator. in my spare time I thoroughly enjoy playing with my 2 toy poodles and watching them as they learn new tricks and playing not only with me but with the with each other. I am also an avid reader and love to cook. I have started being a Sourdough Baker. My husband and I like to travel and take short and long road trips as well as more exotic traveling. My favorite trip has been to the US Virgin Islands where I got to seeing my granddaughter get married in St. Croix.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Going through therapy with a therapist can be a very beneficial experience for individuals who want to work through their mental health challenges and improve their overall well-being. Here are some steps you can take to make the most of your therapy experience: - Find the right therapist: The first step is to find a therapist who is a good fit for you. Look for someone who specializes in the type of issues you want to address and whose style matches your preferences. I hope I can be that person for you. - Set clear goals: It's important to have clear goals for therapy so that you and I are on the same page. In our first session, we will discuss your goals and work together to create a treatment plan that outlines the steps you will take to achieve those goals. - Try to be open and honest with me about your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I am here to help you, and I can only do so if I have a clear understanding of what's going on. - Trust the process: Therapy can be a long process, and it's important to trust that the work you're doing with me will pay off in the end. It's also important to be patient and not expect instant results. - Practice self-care: In addition to attending therapy sessions, it's important to practice self-care on a regular basis. This may include activities such as exercise, meditation, or spending time with loved ones. - Keep an open mind: Finally, it's important to keep an open mind and be willing to try new things. As your therapist, I may suggest different techniques or approaches that you haven't tried before, and it's important to be receptive to these suggestions. Remember, therapy is a collaborative process between you and me, so be sure to communicate your thoughts and concerns along the way. With the right mindset and a willingness to work, therapy can be a transformative experience that helps you achieve your goals and improve your quality of life.
