Bonnie Alvarez, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi, my name is Bonnie Alvarez, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in San Diego, California, working with clients statewide via telehealth. I hold a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pacific Oaks College. I have over ten years of experience working with adults, adolescents, and children experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and loss, life stage transitions, and intimate partner violence. I utilize evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing to support my clients in healing painful life experiences. I am fluent in both Spanish and English. My approach varies based on each client's needs. I provide a safe space and collaborate with my clients to create a plan that empowers them and helps them practice the skills needed to reach their individual goals. I have found that my therapeutic style is a good fit for adolescents, transitioning young adults, and adults dealing with life transitions and unforeseen circumstances. These challenges often stem from anxiety, depression, grief, and life stressors. You are not alone-I am here to help explore ways to foster connection and teach new coping skills. My communication style is relationship-oriented, accommodating, and respectful. I want my clients to feel safe and free from judgment as they find hope and healing on their journey. My journey to mental healthcare began while working with the probation and foster care systems, where I collaborated with parents and caregivers. Often, I worked with multigenerational family systems and partnered with the community to best support clients. My passion for supporting others, increasing awareness, teaching coping skills, and witnessing positive change is why I became a therapist. My goal is to work together with you, trusting the process, to help you heal and grow.
