I’m Brendan Clarke, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) with over a decade of treatment experience. I’ve worked with folks from all walks of life in outpatient, residential, in-home, school, and military environments. These days, I bring my breadth of experience to one-on-one practice to dive deep into productive, meaningful work. I hold a Master of Education in Counseling Psychology from Cambridge College and a Bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross. My approach I bring an empathetic, person-centered approach to problem solving. In my practice, we identify your “wiring,” i.e., automatic thoughts inherited from your unique experience. Once that is figured out, we challenge irrational beliefs, paying attention to the ambivalence that naturally arises when thinking about change. My focus While experienced with most clinical presentations, the key thing I look for in a client is willingness to work on goals. Therapy shouldn’t last forever. After identifying wiring and replacing irrational beliefs with effective tools, the final step is real-world reps. At that point, I become the coach. Your life is the game. My end goal is to work myself out of a job. My communication style My style is informal and direct with a sense of humor. While empathetic, I’m willing to point out challenging thought habits and behaviors such as avoidance. I respect my clients enough to be honest while always kind and accepting. My journey to mental healthcare Like many therapists, I was a therapist before I was a therapist. Even as a kid, I was one of those “easy to talk to” people. After studying human thought and behavior, I discovered it was the “key” to a more fulfilling life. Besides making my practice more successful, I became a more effective friend, family member, and neighbor. We all seek peace of mind. I strongly believe therapy helps us get closer.
