Getting to know Dr. Brian McCormack

Dr. Brian McCormack is supervised by Michelle Burkott I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, practicing under the supervision of Michelle Burkott, LPC-S. I hold a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lamar University. Additionally, I earned a B.A. in History from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, as well as an M.A. and Ph.D. in History from the University of California, San Diego. With over 30 years of professional experience in education, social services, and case management, I am a compassionate and dedicated advocate, committed to fostering profound and positive change in my clients' lives as they navigate various life challenges. My personal life has also enriched my counseling approach. As a husband of 20 plus years and father of four children, I have faced and overcome significant life events, including divorce, remarriage, and raising neurodivergent children. These experiences have provided me with a deep level of empathy, understanding, and wisdom in relation to parenting, family dynamics, and relationship counseling. In my therapeutic approach, I utilize person-centered and cognitive techniques, combined with humanistic, existential, and trauma-informed methods. I work with clients dealing with anxiety, depression, infidelity, relational trauma, and substance abuse, always striving to create a therapeutic environment that is inclusive, respectful, and supportive. Last, I have a deep commitment to supporting LGBTQ+, autistic, and neurodivergent individuals, caregivers, and couples in their journeys toward wellness, growth, resilience, and personal empowerment. I look forward to supporting you on your journey toward mental and emotional well-being. Whether you're aiming to build inner strength, cultivate a more accepting mindset, live more fully in the present, or achieve your long-term goals, I am here to assist and to help you find balance and harmony in your life.
