Getting to know Brian Mitchell
Hello there, I'm Brian Mitchell. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's in Social Work from San Diego State University. I take a client-centered approach to therapy, focusing on trauma and PTSD. I tailor my approach to each client's unique needs and experiences. I am trained in several evidence-based therapies, including CBT, EMDR, and TF-CBT, as well as mindfulness techniques and stress reduction strategies. I work to create a safe and supportive environment for clients to work towards healing and learning coping skills.
My approach
As a psychotherapist, I prioritize the needs and experiences of each client and adjust my approach accordingly. I use a variety of theoretical approaches in my work, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), to name a few. My goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where clients can work towards healing and develop effective coping skills.
My focus
I provide therapy to both teens and adults. I am experienced in treating a variety of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD, as well as providing therapy for LGBTQ individuals and those experiencing life changes. I am also comfortable addressing spiritual aspects that may be part of a client's issues.
My communication style
In your sessions, I work to create a warm and welcoming tone that is non-judgmental and supportive. I establish a safe and comfortable environment where clients feel encouraged to share their thoughts and feelings without fear of criticism or judgment. I am goal-oriented and solution-focused, helping clients identify their desired outcomes and work towards achieving them. Overall, my approach is compassionate and focused on empowering clients to make positive changes in their lives.

Brian was great. He might need a bit more of a recent profile picture, but otherwise A+.

Brian has been very helpful and he is the first therapist I've had who has shown me how much progress I can make even daily.

After spending over a decade with a therapist that I really loved, she never took my insurance and even though the rate was lowered it was still cost prohibitive... I was so reluctant to try someone new, and I found Brian. He is wise beyond his years and could intuit that I needed to address my activated body before anything else. Finally, I have a trauma-informed provider that is kind, insightful, with just the right amount of humor. I was so skeptical and "too smart" for my own good, usually.

Quick during sessions with constructive feedback and suggestions. Kind and delivers thought with respect and sensitivity. I’ve especially been a recipient of EMDR with him and I’ve enjoyed navigating through this modality with him.

Brian has helped me identify and address a lot of issues that affected me for many years. With his help and guidance, I’ve been able to work through them, and it’s had a very positive impact on my life. I don’t like to think about where I’d be today without his support. I’m truly grateful for everything he’s done.

Brian is great: gives a lot of perspectives I haven't thought of regarding a lot of my mental health concerns. He is a great listener and gives resources as coping mechanisms.
