Brian Rice, LMFT

Brian Rice, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
I am an LMFT. I have been licensed since 2016 and have been working in mental health since 2010. I have a wide range of experience working in many different settings, including schools, a rehab for teens, inpatient and outpatient psychiatric hospitals, a jail, and also private practice. I like to say that it is hard to surprise me. My approach I like to tell my clients that I have a bad business practice as I work with them to until they don't need me anymore. I like to help clients get over current hurdles and be successful in their lives using evidence-based approaches while working off client strengths. My focus My focus on clients is to help them make positive changes in their lives. A client who is ready to put in the work will have the best outcomes. I like to describe therapy like having a personal trainer at the gym; there is going to be work, and sometimes it will feel like progress isn't being made, but pushing through you can be successful. My communication style I am friendly and can joke around when it is appropriate, but I am also pretty direct. I don't have a problem calling clients out when necessary. My journey to mental healthcare I had an interest in psychology during high school after taking some classes. I was an automotive mechanic for a number of years, and when I started to learn more about psychology, I found that the way I looked at mechanical issues could also be applied to helping others in therapy, which has influenced my approach. My goals for you I help clients reach their goals by discussing what it is that they want to change. Most clients have great goals, but often feel overwhelmed because they are too great. Through collaborating, we break the goals down into smaller pieces and set realistic timelines. Each session, this is something that is gone over. My first session with you The first session will generally be about getting to know each other while gathering a history of the client.
