Brittney George, LPC

Brittney George, LPC

Psychotherapist
VA
I am not a “tough love” therapist at my core; I am relational, warm, and nurturing. I have been in the mental health field for 12 years, beginning as an intern and resident while working toward my LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) credential. I earned my Master's in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. My career has taken me through multiple treatment environments, including outpatient, inpatient, community-based, and academic settings. I have a passion for communities and the family system. I love supporting intergenerational issues, ranging from pregnancy and postpartum concerns to attachment ruptures and healing from the abuse of power dynamics, such as spiritual trauma and narcissistic abuse recovery. I also seek to engage with communal and community trauma affecting marginalized groups, holding space for those who may not have access to other arenas where they can feel heard and understood.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am not a “tough love” therapist at my core; I am relational, warm, and nurturing. Some read this and think it is “enabling” and “soft,” but this approach has been necessary and impactful for those with no other space to experience compassion. In my work with specific identities (e.g., Black women/femmes), I recognize that we are accustomed to having “meanness in our medicine.” I seek to challenge that by experimenting with kindness, encouragement, and safety.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Once "fit" has been established, we look to develop rapport and a collaborative feel. It's essential to lay a foundation of trust and safety, allowing clients to feel space to be themselves. I am patient with this part, mainly because it's foundational and sets the tone for when it's time to tackle more challenging topics.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
