Brooke Melanson, LMHC

Psychotherapist
MA
Hi there, I'm Brooke! I am a licensed mental health counselor with a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Springfield College in Boston and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UMass Boston. My focus areas of practice are strength-based and solution-focused, which inspired the name of my practice, Strength in Solutions, LLC. My approach I find success practicing CBT and DBT therapy, which focus on changing behavior by analyzing thoughts. Through my own experience with CBT, I fought drug addiction until 2004, so I can truly empathize with those facing similar struggles. My focus I have extensive experience treating addiction, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, and marriage counseling. My communication style I emphasize the value of gaining self-awareness and work to help you achieve that. I offer ideas in each session to help you continue challenging your thinking between appointments. My journey to mental healthcare Since age 13, I have wanted to become a therapist to help people struggling with mental health disorders. My path began while I was battling heroin and crack cocaine addiction at 24. During my last inpatient stay, I asked my favorite counselor, “How do I do what you do?” After he answered, I followed his career path. Upon completing rehab in 2004, I entered long-term residential treatment for two years. Afterward, I finished my Bachelor’s degree and entered graduate school. I moved to Quincy, Massachusetts, temporarily after my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer that metastasized to his liver. I loved Boston so much that I never returned to my Philadelphia suburb. Over the past 10 years, I have worked in inpatient, outpatient, PHP, long-term residential, and more.
