If you’re a healthcare provider, you may find yourself having a hard time bouncing back from the intensity of your everyday work. The long hours of witnessing human suffering, critical incidents, and system flaws can lead to anxiety, panic, vicarious trauma, and moral injury. You deserve your own space to process your work and life with someone who understands your line of work. I lean on EMDR, Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT, CBT), and Somatic Therapy to help you work through the psychological trauma and emotional pain caused by disturbing life events. I come from a strengths-based, culturally conscious, LGBTQIA affirming perspective, so you can have the space you need to process all that comes up in your work and your life. As a healthcare professional, you're highly trained to heal others, solve problems, and navigate high-intensity situations. This takes a lot of emotional bandwidth. You may be experiencing irritability and emotional overwhelm, nightmares and sleep troubles, jumpiness, or uncontrollable worry. You may have disturbing memories replaying in your mind. You may be feeling so depleted that there's very little energy left for you to give to your family, friends, and yourself. Self-care is more than just a spa day, and sometimes routine coping skills aren't enough. As a clinician who's been a part of interdisciplinary healthcare teams, I know, firsthand, the many complexities that come with a day's work. Contact me to see how I can help you combat job burnout, heal from painful experiences, and make room for more of what you really want in life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

With a sense of optimism, humor, and a high regard for individual personhood, I value collaboration, flexibility, and open communication. We'll create a therapeutic structure that helps us stay tuned in to what's most important to you. Using a collaborative approach, we'll touch base throughout our therapy session to make sure you're feeling understood and supported. One of my favorite quotes is from Helen Keller, who said, "Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it." Over the course of my life, I've been deeply moved and inspired by the many ways we, as humans, overcome adversity. I believe that all of us need to be able to lean on others from time to time, to create room for us to lay down our burdens while we find new ways to navigate this wild world of ours. I began to specialize in psychotherapy for healthcare providers after working with multidisciplinary healthcare teams in medical and mental health clinics. After personally observing and experiencing the many demands and difficulties that healing and care providers face, I felt a strong pull to support people as they care for and support others.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Together, we'll design a personal roadmap for your unique growth and healing needs. We'll explore what you want to get out of your life and relationships. We'll identify and build on your strengths and supports while incorporating new strategies to navigate the things that are getting in the way. During our first session, we'll talk about what brings you to therapy and what the most important priorities are for you in our work together. We'll explore a bit of your background, your values, and past experiences. We'll talk about what's been working well for you so far, and what isn't working as well as you'd like. We'll use some mindfulness and somatic techniques to settle your nervous system and to lay a foundation that will help you stay grounded throughout our healing work together.
