Psychotherapist
VA
Hi there, I'm Carissa! I am Carissa Toviessi, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's in Social Work from The University of Texas at Arlington and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Phoenix. I believe in a collaborative and authentic client-centered approach. I think it is important to instill change through exploration, problem-solving, and identifying achievable goals to process and heal from symptoms of emotional distress. My approach I utilize evidence-based treatment modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and I am trained in trauma-informed therapies and attachment-based approaches such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS)/parts work. My focus I work with adults, helping clients with PTSD, mood disorders (anxiety, depression, bipolar), chronic pain and illness, adjustment issues, life transitions, worthiness, relationship issues, family of origin issues, boundary work, and complex trauma. My communication style I consider myself a casual, warm, low-key therapist. I seek to create an environment where clients feel safe and supported. In sessions, I work to affirm and empower clients to be open and honest about their thoughts and feelings without judgment. My journey to mental healthcare My own experience as a trauma survivor led me to this work. I have dedicated over 15 years to helping others on their healing journey. It is an honor and passion to help people achieve their goals and become their best selves. My goals for you I believe clients should identify their ideal self by recognizing what changes they want to make-whether personal growth, emotional well-being, improving relationships, or behavioral changes.
