Carol Ann Fletcher, LCSW

Psychotherapist
VA
People often ask me, "How will I know when it's time to see a counselor?". To that, I answer, "When the time feels right". A presenter at a training overheard me say to a peer at my training table, "I am feeling a little sick and tired of my life schedule as it's just so busy". The presenter said, "I'll get to that," and I wondered what she meant. She later opened a new part of the discussion by saying that she was opening my question. She said, "When you are sick and tired of being sick and tired, you may make that call and schedule". I was there right then. I knew it, but I learned so much more by just scheduling that appointment. So welcome, I look forward to helping you answer your question by collaborating with you in the one place that is private and safe to open your life. My approach I use many formal methods of working with clients, including EMDR, CBT, DBT, mindfulness, Gottman, Imago, family work, and client-focused. This last is the most important. I seek to engage with my client at our first meeting, and over time, we work together to continue that interaction with each other and collaborate so that we become productive. My goal is to assist you in unpacking whatever you have brought with you. In order to assist you, I will be empathic and create a safe enough holding environment that you are more likely to unpack and share what feels unsafe or troublesome. You and I are fortunate to have many resources available to us at Rula, and comprehensive care will be sought to augment our work. Medication may be useful in the early or all stages of treatment, and those connections will be made if identified in our meetings. Other formal methods of counseling will be used as you choose based on your needs and interests. My focus You know your story and how it has impacted you better than anyone else in this world. You are my guide as we travel.
