Carol Johnson, LCSW

Psychotherapist
GA
Hi there, I'm Carol! My name is Carol Johnson, and I am a licensed clinical social worker with a Master's in Social Work from the University of Alabama. My approach to therapy emphasizes empathy, understanding, and respect for each client's unique experiences and feelings. Currently, I focus on depression, stress, and anxiety, and I also work with individuals diagnosed with serious mental illnesses-such as Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Schizophrenia, and Schizoaffective Disorder-on a case-by-case basis. My approach Key elements of my therapeutic style include empathy, a non-judgmental attitude, personalization, support, encouragement, collaboration, and compassion. The primary theoretical approaches I use are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). My focus I work with adult clients aged 21 and older who experience symptoms of depression and anxiety, including low motivation, stress, negative thinking patterns and behaviors, racing thoughts, hypervigilance, constant worry, sleep difficulties, low self-worth, appetite changes, restlessness, and other related symptoms. My communication style One of my goals as your therapist is to create a safe and supportive environment where you feel heard, valued, and accepted. I support clients through active and reflective listening, validating feelings and experiences without judgment, encouraging deeper exploration of thoughts and emotions, providing guidance when appropriate, and helping clients view situations from new perspectives that can lead to insights and solutions. My journey to mental healthcare I was drawn to a career as a therapist for many meaningful reasons: a strong desire to help others, an interest in human behavior, the satisfaction of witnessing growth and progress, and a commitment to reducing stigma and improving access to mental health services.

She forgot about me. I know people make mistakes but after all the emails I got reminding me about the appointment for the whole week. And even on that day. She forgot me. I already have issues and the situation just triggered them. And when I called her office back she did not answer and has not returned my call. I guess my mental illness is too much for her to handle. I do agree I am a lot. But, I did what I was supposed to do. Maybe it was not meant to be. I hope my next counselor is more caring about people. She hasn't even checked to see if I am okay.
