Getting to know Carolyn Simon

I thrive in helping people work through life's challenges and move toward the life they want for themselves. As someone who has also personally benefited from therapy, I know how valuable it can be to have a safe, supportive space where you can be yourself, talk openly, and feel genuinely heard. Since my senior year of high school, I knew being a therapist was what I wanted to spend my life doing. I believe that everyone has the ability to grow, heal, and make meaningful changes, even when things feel difficult. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, navigate the obstacles you're facing, and build on your strengths. Together, we'll identify what's most important to you, set goals that feel meaningful, and take steps toward creating the life you want. I enjoy working with adults of all ages dealing with negative body image, disordered eating, relationship challenges, work-life balance, burnout, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder/tendencies, life transitions, grief, and more. Wherever you are in your journey, I'm here to support you with compassion, curiosity, encouragement, and some humor along the way.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe therapy works best when you feel comfortable being yourself, and I do my best to create a space where you can show up exactly as you are. I come to sessions with an open mind, optimism, genuineness, openness, and flexibility. Starting with a new therapist can feel a little nerve-wracking, and that's completely understandable. There's no pressure to share everything right away — I want to go at a pace that feels comfortable for you! During our first session, I'll have some questions to help guide the conversation, including what brought you to therapy and what you're hoping to get out of our work together. We'll spend time getting to know each other, discussing your goals, and figuring out what support would be most helpful moving forward. Before scheduling a full intake appointment, I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation. This gives us a chance to connect, answer any questions you may have, and see if we're a strong fit. The quality of the therapeutic relationship is a huge factor in successful outcomes! If you decide you'd like to move forward, you can schedule an appointment through Zocdoc. I'll verify your insurance benefits and send over a few forms for you to complete before our first session. I look forward to connecting with you and supporting you on your journey!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Working with me is all about getting to know each other — while keeping the focus mainly on you and what brings you to therapy. Before our first session, I'll send you some electronic paperwork to complete. During that first meeting, we'll spend most of our time talking so I can learn more about you, your background, your experiences, and what you're hoping to get out of therapy. As we continue working together, we'll set goals that feel meaningful to you and regularly check in on your progress. I'm happy to give "homework" assignments or tasks for you to work on/think about in between our sessions. At the end of each session, we'll decide on a schedule that works best for you, whether that's meeting weekly, every other week, or at another pace that fits your needs and schedule. I enjoy helping clients recognize not only the challenges they're facing, but also their strengths, accomplishments, and the positive changes happening along the way.

Don’t see your insurance?

It’s common for mental health providers to be out-of-network. Many insurance plans offer out-of-network coverage, so you may get partially reimbursed. Learn more

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork
  • Charges post-reimbursement amount: This provider will only charge you for the amount you pay after you get reimbursed from your insurance plan, so you don’t need to pay the session fee upfront

More information on payments and coverage

I accept a number of insurance plans and can provide super bills for clients who are out-of-network and trying to get reimbursed. Additionally, I use a sliding scale for those without insurance or paying out-of-pocket.
