“He listened carefully to my issues and concerns, and at the same time took the time to introduce himself and explain his approach so I could understand how he works and whether we were a good fit. He was very patient, well-spoken, and clear in the way he communicated. At first, I didn’t fully realize what he was doing, but once I did, I truly appreciated the thought and intention behind it.”

Getting to know Cary Fosback

In my practice, I have found purpose in helping people who feel lost, disconnected, and overwhelmed. I have a long history of success treating individuals experiencing trauma, depression, and anxiety. Whether you are trapped in self-medicating or stuck in avoidant patterns, I can help you feel more connected to the present and to yourself so that you can return to what truly matters. I believe I can be the person to help you pivot toward a new, more fulfilling life direction. I hold a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University at Albany, which has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support you effectively on your journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I utilize a person-centered approach when applying tools from a number of mindfulness-based cognitive therapies. I believe that therapy best serves a person’s needs when it helps them to cope with difficult emotions, encourages them to move toward what works, and focuses on personal growth rather than pathology.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

If you are curious about whether or not there could be more to treatment than open ended questions or if you're intrigued by an approach focused on building a life you want, I invite you to reach out and talk to me. During your initial sessions we will dive deeply into your current issues to identify values and goals for treatment and better understand what might be holding you back. After that we will use mindfulness, acceptance, and behavior change strategies to help you move toward a life worth living.

Awesome guy, great listener and helper. I was against trying therapy all my adult life because of bad experiences when I was a child, I wish I had given it a 2nd chance a lot sooner.

Provider canceled stating they “could not handle it” and referred to me as “my dude”. Overall a seriously unprofessional experience.

Cary is an excellent active listener, and always has helpful insights. He has a great way of providing clarity to complex situations and helping organize my thoughts. He is easy to talk to, and it is clear he cares about you and wants to help. 10/10 awesome human being!
My sessions with Cary have been very productive and helped me gain clarity on issues that I am dealing with. Cary is kind, understanding, and patient and has helped me tremendously. I highly recommend.
Cary is very attentive and doesn't just listen but hears you. All therapy is slow at first, you won't regret giving him the opportunity to help you.
Cary is very knowledgeable and considerate. He takes his time with you and offers very helpful insight and guidance. I am truly grateful.
Cary is, I'm happy to say, the best therapist I've ever had. I'm 65 years old and have been battling depression for over 50 years. As a result, I've had over a dozen different therapists through the years, and while some of them were quite helpful, Cary reached me in a way that nobody has before, and I made dramatic breakthroughs under his guidance and care. My depression is much improved and I've been able to face issues that I simply could not with any of my previous therapists. He's the best thing that's happened to me in many, many years.
