Getting to know Casey Subero

I love to be of help to others in my personal life, and I was lucky enough to find a profession that allows me to do that. I earned my Master’s in Professional Counseling from Long Island University Brooklyn, which has equipped me to support others effectively. I really enjoy watching people accomplish their goals and overcome challenges. Helping people reach their full potential is what inspires me to do my work.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I take my time and give clients the floor to be the masters of their own story. I put more emphasis on listening to my clients in session, and letting them know what I think is going on in their world. It's a collaboration between them and I to make sure we're both on the same page during the entire process. I also don't hesitate to ask follow-up questions if I don't understand something.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I always remind my clients that I am not there to judge them, or to tell them that they're right or wrong. Instead I let them know that they're allowed to feel things in session, and we'll explore how they feel about their thoughts and behaviors in relation to what we set out to accomplish in treatment. I also don't shy away from letting them know a little bit about me, as long as it's on topic with what we're working on. I think when I give a little bit of myself, it allows my clients to feel safe and vulnerable as well.
