Hi there, I'm Catherine! I'm Catherine (Cathy) Stansell, LMFT, with a Master's in Counseling from Phillips Graduate University. I view therapy as a collaboration between client and therapist. I am a warm and caring therapist who is client-centered and believes in strength-based approaches. I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD/trauma, as well as members of the LGBTQ community in a variety of settings. My approach My therapeutic approach is to work together as a team, building trust and communicating effectively with one another. The most common theoretical approaches I use are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy as a roadmap for meeting client therapy goals. My focus I typically work with clients who have a history of trauma, life transitions, relationship issues, and managing anxiety. The clients I work with are very motivated to make changes in their lives. My communication style I create a caring and supportive environment. My clients and I engage in mutual dialogue discussing their therapy agenda. I believe in being authentic and creating a safe space where clients can express themselves without judgment, embracing a caring environment. My journey to mental healthcare I worked with high-risk, traumatized, and abused youth for many years. I observed the positive changes therapists made with our youth and find practicing therapy very rewarding. Assisting my clients to work through life challenges and progress in their life journey is a privilege. My goals for you The client and I discuss what they want to achieve. Next, we explore their goals and how to execute changes to create positive growth in their lives. My first session with you During the first session, we focus on building rapport, discussing your concerns, and outlining therapeutic goals. Most importantly, we determine if we are a good fit to embrace the therapeutic journey together.
