Cathleen Brinegar, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
My name is Cathleen Brinegar, and I am a faith-based Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Westminster, CA. I hold a Bachelor's degree from California State University, Fullerton. I offer in-person and remote therapy via telehealth. I specialize in trauma therapy, attachment-based therapy, and addiction counseling. I’ve worked in correctional mental health, inpatient/outpatient drug and alcohol treatment, and faith-based rehabilitation programs. I am certified in Complex Trauma Therapy (CCTP) and Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT). My approach I provide faith-based trauma therapy through an attachment theory lens. I take an active role in treatment and foster a supportive environment. Together, we aim to resolve trauma and transform trauma-related responses using sensorimotor techniques, mindfulness, psychoeducation, and faith-based principles. We may also use visual aids and music-related interventions to facilitate healing. My focus I primarily work with clients who have experienced trauma such as childhood trauma, abuse, abandonment, or trauma from relationships. I have worked with combat veterans and alongside law enforcement and first responders. Clients often report symptoms of depression, anxiety, panic attacks, nightmares, loneliness, hopelessness, hypervigilance, and other post-traumatic stress symptoms. Common co-occurring issues include addiction, problematic relationships, difficulty managing anger, trusting, fear of intimacy or commitment, and difficulty forgiving others. My communication style My style is clear and assertive. Clients describe me as kind, warm, genuine, and compassionate. I prioritize a safe, non-judgmental environment through empathetic listening, unconditional positive regard, and acceptance. If you see me in person, my therapy office is comfortable and calming.
