Getting to know Chad Kingery

With 14 years of experience in treating addiction and 19 years of personal sobriety, I bring both professional expertise and personal understanding to my therapy practice. My journey of recovery has given me a unique perspective that allows me to connect deeply with clients, empathizing with their struggles while guiding them toward empowerment and healing. I specialize in substance use disorder, as well as behavioral or process addictions like gambling, sports betting, sex, pornography, gaming, etc. Over the years, I have successfully owned and operated state-certified addiction treatment clinics, helping countless individuals reclaim their lives. I hold a Master’s Degree in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from Montana State University Billings, and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). My qualifications allow me not only to treat addiction but also to address the mental health issues that often accompany it, providing a comprehensive approach to recovery. In my practice, I focus on the disease model of addiction, which views addiction as a chronic condition. My approach is rooted in acceptance and understanding of this model, helping clients depersonalize the outcomes of their addiction. I believe that by removing the stigma and self-blame, clients can see their own value and start to take control of their recovery journey. Addiction is not a personal failing but a condition that can be managed with the right tools and support.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My goal is to create a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients can explore their addiction, understand their mental health, and begin to rebuild their lives. I am committed to helping individuals see their potential beyond addiction and to develop the skills they need to maintain long-term recovery. I believe that everyone has the capacity for change, and through understanding the nature of addiction and empowering oneself, sustainable recovery is possible. Whether you’re seeking help for yourself or a loved one, I offer a compassionate, knowledgeable, and proven approach to recovery that draws from both my professional background and my personal experience. Together, we can navigate the challenges of addiction and mental health, moving toward a healthier, more fulfilling life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

To help clients develop these tools, I incorporate a variety of evidence-based therapies. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a core part of my practice, where I collaborate with clients to build their intrinsic motivation for change. I also employ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients reframe negative thought patterns and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to develop emotional regulation skills. These therapeutic methods, along with others, are tailored to each individual’s needs, recognizing that recovery is not a one-size-fits-all process.
