Getting to know Chanell Elston

Hi there, I'm Chanell! I received my BA in Criminology (2011) and my Master’s degree in Social Work from Cleveland State University (2015). I have been an Independently Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LISW-S) since 2019 and achieved my supervision designation in 2021. My approach I have worked with youth, women, veterans, and seniors in a variety of counseling settings, including residential, home, and hospital environments. My focus has been on supporting individuals in crisis and those coping with adversity. I have extensive experience working with clients who have experienced trauma, loss, and grief. I believe in a collaborative approach and work alongside people to uncover their intuitive knowledge for processing and managing challenging emotions and life transitions. I have also provided administrative support, including policy formation and supervision. My communication style My sessions involve active listening and feedback, as this process works best when the client and provider collaborate closely. My journey to mental healthcare I was working as a secretary for the VA substance use clinic when I received a suicide call. I worked to alert the police while keeping the veteran on the phone until help arrived. The police came, and the veteran was brought in for care. After that experience, I realized social work was the path I wanted to pursue. My goals for you Goal setting is client-centered, meeting you where you are and helping you reach both your short-term and long-term goals.
