Charles Adams

Psychotherapist
CA
My journey into the mental health field was shaped by my own experience with therapy and the impact of having therapists who believed in my capacity for growth. That experience continues to influence the kind of therapist I strive to be—authentic, compassionate, curious, and collaborative. I work with individuals, couples, and teens navigating anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, emotional overwhelm, low self-worth, identity concerns, substance use, and major life transitions. My approach is relational and insight-oriented, drawing from attachment theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy, psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, somatic approaches, and Gestalt therapy, while incorporating practical tools from CBT and DBT when helpful. Together, we can explore the patterns and experiences that may be keeping you stuck, develop a deeper understanding of yourself, and work toward greater confidence, healthier relationships, and meaningful, lasting change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe the therapeutic relationship is an important part of meaningful change. My style is warm, authentic, collaborative, and nonjudgmental. I’ll encourage you to slow down and become curious about the patterns, emotions, and experiences that may be keeping you stuck. Therapy with me is not one-size-fits-all—I tailor our work to your individual needs, balancing deeper self-exploration with practical tools you can use in everyday life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I start by getting to know you, your experiences, and what brings you to therapy. Together, we’ll identify the patterns, relationships, and emotions that may be contributing to where you feel stuck and develop goals that feel meaningful to you. As we work together, I’ll tailor our sessions to your needs, combining deeper exploration and insight with practical tools when helpful. We’ll continue to check in on what’s working and adjust our approach as you grow and your needs evolve.
