Cherie Chavez, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
My name is Cherie Chavez, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist practicing integrative psychotherapy via telehealth statewide in California. I hold a Bachelor's degree from California State University, Northridge, and a Master's degree from Antioch University Santa Barbara. Since 2009, I have been counseling adults coping with severe mental illness and complex trauma, helping to provide symptom relief and improve quality of life. Having a diagnosis can feel stigmatizing; reaching out for help so you don't go it alone can be empowering. My approach My therapy approach is eclectic: both an art and a science; highly intuitive yet backed by data. I consider the wholeness of one's being-from physical to etheric-and believe true healing begins when an individual honors and accepts their own truth. Methodologies I often use include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Ultimately, I help clients come to their own realizations within a safe, non-judgmental environment. My focus I am experienced working with adults diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and depression. Many clients also have symptoms of complex trauma. I am familiar with military service members and their families, a unique culture with its own hardships. I have first-hand experience as the daughter of a retired veteran-growing up on Army bases and moving often-and have worked with veterans in an outpatient clinic. My communication style I aim to stay attuned and reflective of your narrative. Feedback from others describes my style as warm and responsive. I provide gentle feedback when warranted and strive to create an environment of mutual trust and respect. My journey to mental healthcare I have a background in business administration and initially planned to be an accountant-even began studying for the CPA exam before shifting my path to mental health.

Cherie is amazing, very understanding and validating.
the therapist immediately did not have a warm vibe . she seemed half engaged during the session, she asked poor, unrelevant questions to my situation, she did not say anything interesting or insightful. she was not familar with the terminology i described in my situation such as parental alienation. she assigned un relevant homework , such as journaling about how i met my ex wife which is not relevant to my situation . bad experience . and her cats were climbing all over her during the session . i didnt mind too much but still unprofessional
