Getting to know Cherie Harper

ABOUT ME Hello, My name is Cherie Harper. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and advocate for those suffering from mental illness or mental health crises. With 21 years of experience, my goal has been to help erase the stigma surrounding mental illness. My experience includes in-patient settings, community mental health, crisis residential, and individual and couples counseling. I work with adults, older adults, and transitional age youth. Growing up, I witnessed family members and friends struggle to receive needed help, which inspired me to advocate for the underserved and disadvantaged. I earned my Master’s in Counseling Psychology from National University. I use a person-centered, recovery, and integrative approach, meeting clients where they are in life. I believe people can recover from mental illness, manage their lives fully, and recognize mental health crises. I use evidence-based techniques including Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness. Most of the time, I don’t take myself seriously. I know I have flaws and have learned to live with and appreciate some of them. My approach is warm, friendly, and empathetic. I am ready to take on complicated issues and help you tackle your struggles head-on. If you want a counselor who will listen, provide honest feedback, and guide you to a better you, I am the counselor for you. My areas of expertise include: - Depression, Stress, and Anxiety - Couples Counseling - Trauma and Abuse - Chronic Mental Illness - Relationship Issues - Anger Management - Career Difficulties

What should a new client know about working with you?

My hope is that after a session you walk away feeling heard, validated and not judged. My approach is to first listen, and then evaluate your situation. I do not tell you how to live your life but assist you with unblocking whatever is holding you back from self-actualizing. I also assign Homework as I believe you will need to spend time outside of therapy using techniques discussed in Therapy

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
