Psychotherapist

Hi there, I'm Cheryl! I am Cheryl Girder, a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with a Master?s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Chapman University. I have been in this field for 15 years. My approach to therapy is to assist clients in seeing themselves and others with better understanding, which provides a positive outlook on themselves and their surroundings. My approach My therapeutic approach centers on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which helps modify dysfunctional emotions, behaviors, and thoughts by examining and uprooting negative or irrational beliefs. CBT is based on the idea that thoughts and perceptions influence behavior. My focus I am open to working with clients experiencing personal conflicts, relationship or family troubles, including couples, as well as conditions such as depression, stress, or anxiety. These are the areas I typically work with and feel most comfortable addressing. My communication style Building a trusting rapport is very important to me. I focus on understanding what a client expects from therapy, creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can express their needs and challenges. I am a compassionate and empathetic person who meets clients where they are, providing genuine support and active listening. I firmly believe that by embarking on the healing journey together, we can discover the answers you are looking for?answers that might already be within you?to achieve a happy and peaceful life. My journey to therapy As far back as I can remember, growing up in a quite dysfunctional family, I often wondered why people think and act the way they do. I saw how irrational people can be, but I also witnessed very loving family members and kind friends of my parents, which made me wonder, "Are they really as happy as they seem to be?" I was always intrigued and sometimes untrusting of people in my life, and I wanted to pursue knowledge about how people act and react. Hence, my journey began?and here I am.
