Psychotherapist
CA
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, earning my Master’s in Psychology in 2003. I have experience across a broad range of topics but have a particular focus on helping clients through anxiety, depression, and the unique challenges of giftedness. In my journey through practicing therapy, I have worked with a diverse group of people, races, religions, sexual orientations, economic levels, and cultures, bringing me experience with a multitude of different life issues. My approach Human beings are unique and complex. Therefore, my approach to therapy is based on an empathic tailoring for each individual client. I tend to use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as my overall framework, but also bring in Socratic Dialogue, Dialectical Behavioral techniques, as well as interventions focusing on the mind/body connection. My focus I have a strong understanding of the client’s coping with anxiety, depression, women’s issues, life transitions, school stressors, giftedness, and trauma. I am also working on gaining more knowledge and understanding of LGBTQIA issues. My communication style My communication style shifts with the client's needs. There are times when communication needs to be direct and others when counseling needs to be guided with levity. But I am forever curious and work on personalizing counseling based on learning, understanding, and adapting to each unique situation. Overall, I believe a key strength I have is the ability to connect with clients through empathy and, where needed, a little humor. My journey to mental healthcare My interest in psychology began while tutoring adolescent offenders in college. In this environment, I learned to provide a safe space, listening with no judgment, for the young people to share about themselves. I was inspired by how that safe space could make a difference in someone’s life.
