Getting to know Christina Ford-Shannon

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Virginia with 16 years of experience supporting individuals navigating a variety of life circumstances. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor's degree from Hollins University. I enjoy providing 1:1 therapy using various therapeutic techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, and interpersonal therapy to equip clients with improved problem-solving, stress management, and coping skills. I have a passion for working with teenaged clients experiencing depression, anxiety, and anger management issues. I offer a therapeutic space where teens can express their feelings openly while also receiving gentle confrontation to foster deeper insight into their thinking and behavior patterns. My work with this population includes helping them identify healthy ways to interact with themselves, peers, family, and school systems. Over the past six years, I have developed a strong commitment to working with older adults (55 years and older) and individuals with chronic illnesses. Common themes in treatment with aging and chronically ill clients include loss of independence, cognitive and physical decline, trauma, and social isolation. Treatment goals often focus on exploring life purpose, resolving crises and grief, and enhancing empowerment and autonomy. Additionally, I work with caregivers of all ages to acknowledge the strain and stress they experience and to develop strategies for achieving balance while managing multiple life roles.
