Christina Wood, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
I hold a Doctor of Psychology degree from California Southern University and a Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy and Child Counseling from the University of Phoenix. I am also a licensed marriage and family therapist. My approach to therapy is one where I walk alongside my clients rather than direct them. I focus on substance use disorders, codependency issues, inner-child work through a trauma-focused lens, and serving veterans and first responders. The client is the expert of their life, and I am a willing sounding board who guides them through their healing journey and cheers them on with each step taken. I use TF-CBT, inner-child work, narrative therapy, and other approaches tailored to each individual. I am flexible in my methods, allowing them to depend largely on the strengths of each client. I typically work with adults of all ages, focusing on trauma, addiction and alcoholism, codependency, and marital or parental struggles. My communication style is relaxed and easy-going, grounded in competency and professionalism. I believe therapy doesn't have to be overly formal; vulnerability and honesty are best accessed through friendly empathy and by allowing myself and my client to be equals. My journey in mental healthcare began as a drug and alcohol counselor. I quickly realized that addictive behaviors are not the core problem but symptoms of deeper issues. I have dedicated my life to helping people recognize their true selves and understand that their actions and experiences do not define who they are. At our most difficult times, we are simply who we had to become to survive what we have been trying to survive. Therapy goals are determined collaboratively with the client, who is the expert in their own life. I support each identified goal and work to add therapeutic gains along the way.
