“Cindy has been a great therapist. When talking things through with her I often find myself considering alternate views that help alleviate my anxiety and depression. Cindy is one of the most non-judgmental people I have ever met. The fear of judgement has always kept barriers between me and being honest with my therapist. I feel that I can be completely honest with Cindy.”

Getting to know Cindy Gaskins

People can make better decisions when they have enough information and understanding about how counseling works. Here are some aspects of counseling and therapy as I perceive and practice it: Therapeutic counseling requires your active involvement, including efforts to change any self-defeating thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. You will be asked to work both in and out of the counseling sessions. I may occasionally suggest “homework” - not a formal requirement, since life happens and you have other duties - but perhaps jotting things down or making notes for yourself. This kind of homework provides further reinforcement of concepts discussed in session or prompts deeper insight and self-exploration. There are no instant, painless, or passive cures, no “magic pills.” Instead, ongoing personal and spiritual growth can occur with your conscious effort. Most likely, you will need to work on improving stress management, cognitions (e.g., beliefs and thought processes), emotional health, relationships, and your general lifestyle for counseling to be successful. Sometimes change will be relatively easy, but more often it takes effort, time, and persistence. My hope for you is that you grow into your best self in the present, allowing you to be your best version for your future. Therapy is about YOU and your needs. I specialize in trauma, mood, and anxiety disorders and am an LGBTQ++ ally and kink-aware professional. I hold a Master's in Social Work from East Carolina University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My hope for every session is that the person I am working with feels supported, accepted, and genuinely cared for. I do not judge and I am accepting and respectful to all. My first session is more about the person that I am meeting deciding if I am a good fit for their needs. I am open and honest and transparent and I have a big personality. All of these traits convey in how I am as a human and as a therapist. I hope that if you decide I am a good fit for you, we move forward and process through the concerns and issues that brought you to counseling at your pace. I am non-directive in that I feel that sessions are driven by the person and their experience rather than solely by the therapist.

In-network insurances

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Cindy continues to help me work through my trauma in a way that makes me feel empowered. She is guiding light in times where I feel encompassed by darkness. Not only does she listen but she hears. Her skill set and education are clearly top tier. As I navigate through my issues she provides the tools to be successful and helps me understand the “why”. She is does not sugar coat while still being empathic. After the search for a therapist I am grateful to have found such a good fit.
I’m so glad we found Cindy! She is so real which makes for a comforting environment, it’s like chatting with your best friend :)
