What should a new client know about working with you?

During our first session, clients can expect an in-depth clinical interview where you, the client, get to learn a bit about me while also sharing what issues and topics may be bringing you to therapy. In this initial diagnostic interview, I seek to understand your presenting issue on several levels: a surface level, presenting dynamic issues, while also obtaining a historic overview of your life and problem(s). This often includes gathering some family history and medical information. Following this interview, sessions will consist of 50 min hours of psychotherapy. Clients can expect to be well-informed along the way in the therapeutic process. We will formulate goals and map a plan to get there (implicit and explicit planning takes place). Most importantly, I hope to bring awareness to how you may be thinking and behaving positively or destructively, which ultimately may contribute to current circumstances and/or relationships. Clients can expect a hands-on approach in my efforts to provide constructive mental healthcare. Clients can expect to acquire skills training and a new way to think or behave that is more in line with THEIR stated values and goals.
