“Crystal is great! She listens well, gives feedback and talks about solutions. Giving you the option to apply what she advises... or not. I've had my share of trying out therapists, both private and corporate. Some were great and some missed the mark. I would recommend her to all those who are seeking help. She is great at what she does, she even checks in to make sure she is doing me justice and that I am getting what I need from her. I hope to keep her for the remainder of my journey here at grow!”

Getting to know Crystal Villanueva

Hi! My name is Crystal Villanueva, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Southern California, working with clients statewide via telehealth. I hold a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from National University and have 11 years of experience supporting adults, adolescents, couples, and children facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, grief, family conflict, relationship difficulties, and intimate partner violence. My approach to therapy is grounded in the spirit of Humanistic therapy, which is based on the core belief that people are good at heart and capable of making the right choices for themselves. In therapy, this belief leads me to focus on each individual’s unique point of view and how this perspective can impact their choices. It also emphasizes the importance of being our authentic selves to live the most fulfilling life. I strive to create a safe environment where clients feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and emotions. I am genuine, friendly, nonjudgmental, empathetic, and interactive. I believe I am easy to talk to because I am casual in my style but direct and focused when it comes to our work together. My journey to becoming a therapist began with my own personal therapy. Most notably, as a youth and young adult, I received therapy and experienced how life-changing it can be. I worked with a therapist who was completely accepting and nonjudgmental of my faults and shortcomings and helped me work through and accept them. Because of this experience, I wanted to give back by providing the same safe space, acceptance, and nonjudgmental support for others.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to goal setting with clients is collaboratively. I want to work together to help client’s identify strengths, weaknesses, and set goals. I assist my client’s in setting SMART Goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Reasonable/Realistic, Time-based).

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Working with Crystal has been great. I feel like she really does her best to find every way to understand how I feel and even more so in trying to find solutions that click for me.
She does a great job of empathizing and highlighting a lot of things my husband and I had never thought about before. She also commends us and gives a lot of positive reinforcement which we respond really well to. We value her opinion as she’s done an exceptional job of building our trust. Our relationship has definitely improved since seeing Crystal and I’m super grateful for all she’s done to improve my marriage.
