What should a new client know about working with you?

I use a wide range of communication styles to foster understanding, empathy, support, and utilize methods such as active listening, give clients the opportunity to reflect on their experiences, engaging as empathetic partners in the process. I always “go where my client goes” in the process, "meet clients where they are". My journey started when I recognized that I always enjoyed helping family and friends solve problems and being a good listener. I recognized I possess talent and skills with problem resolution when communicating with family and friends, which ended in favorable results. I then decided to explore professional careers that would enable me to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. By entering the educational arena for the School of Social Work, I gained professional clinical skills, knowledge, theories, and techniques to provide professional clinical counseling services to individuals seeking counseling.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I will assist the client with identifying and setting goals that matter to them. Will assist the client in setting short-term as well as long-term goals and include action steps to take that could help the client accomplish their goals. Will engage the client in a discussion to establish an appropriate and adjusted timeline attached to each goal. My first therapeutic session with a client will involve introducing myself. I will then explain Confidentiality, HPPA regulations, and safety procedures. Will then start the process of gathering personal and mental health history to clarify the reason for seeking counseling /presenting problems/issues. Then restate to the client the presenting problem/issues and ask the client if clarity is warranted and if there are any questions.
