Cynthia Sanchez Vazquez is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and certified EMDR therapist. She graduated with a double major in Nutrition, Health, and Wellness and Psychology from Northern Illinois University. Afterward, Cynthia received her Master's Degree in Counseling from Northwestern University. Prior to joining CCBH, Cynthia has worked with high schoolers, young adults, adults, and couples. Some of the issues Cynthia has helped clients better understand and navigate include anxiety, depression, stress management, trauma, perfectionism, relational concerns, self-harm behaviors, life transitions, and suicidal ideation. Cynthia has worked in a variety of settings, including a partial and intensive outpatient hospitalization program at Roger's Behavioral Health, the outpatient and employee assistance programs at AMITA Center for Mental Health, and The Family Institute. Cynthia utilizes an eclectic approach that combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, and Psychodynamic theories. She believes that an eclectic approach helps with symptom reduction and gaining insight into answering the big question, “why is this happening.” Cynthia believes that by gaining awareness of the why behind recurring patterns in life that cause distress, clients can work toward creating lasting changes that bring them closer to achieving their life goals. Throughout her treatment approach, Cynthia highlights the importance of collaboration by helping clients understand why something is recommended and by gaining a clear picture of their values and opinions. She also believes in acknowledging the impact cultural factors have on a client's values, long-held beliefs, and current distress.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Cynthia's goal throughout treatment is to collaborate with you to make choices together that align with your values and goals you have set for yourself. The process for new clients is to schedule an intake session through ZocDoc. Clients will then receive a confirmation email and instructions from our Client Care Coordinator . All further scheduling will be done directly through your therapist. Please note there is paperwork to be completed before your intake session (more information will be included on your confirmation email). Please note that were are NOT able to serve clients that are in the following situations: - If you are or have been accused of being a perpetrator of abuse and/or violence of any kind and are actively involved in the criminal system due to these charges - If this applies to you, please cancel your appointment immediately and contact us if you need referral information. If you are coming in for the following reasons, please contact us to get more information from you: - Substance abuse or dependence as your main reason for seeking treatment. - A recent suicide attempt. - If the client is under 18 and the parents are separated/divorced.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERAPY SESSIONS ARE CONDUCTED WEEKLY ON THE SAME DAY AND TIME. Clients will typically have 2 intake sessions in which the therapist will ask some questions about their presenting issue, upbringing, current living situation, support system, symptoms, and experiences across the lifespan. The therapist will then issue a diagnosis and set up a treatment plan for the client, which may involve weekly therapy sessions for a certain period of time.
