Cynthia Unger, MA

Psychotherapist
NV
Hi there, I'm Cynthia! My name is Cindy Unger, and I am a certified professional counselor in Nevada. I earned my Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Roosevelt University and my Bachelor’s from Columbia College Chicago. As a therapist, I seek to empower my clients to pursue the life and relationships they value the most. I have a background in alternative health and value an approach that integrates physical health, relationships, medical and non-medical approaches, and self-empowerment. My approach I use and teach emotion regulation strategies, mindfulness and interpersonal effectiveness skills, cognitive approaches from CBT, DBT, and ACT, and gradual exposure therapies with individuals. With couples and relationship work, I use the Gottman Method, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and awareness of attachment principles. My focus I specialize in treating couples and anxiety, working with adults and older teens struggling with anxiety and panic attacks, OCD-related challenges, pregnancy/postpartum struggles and birth trauma, addiction, past sexual assault and/or abuse, relationship conflicts and difficulties (especially in dating, marriage, and breakups), and life transitions. My communication style I am a very practical person who believes in the power of self-acceptance. I believe a therapist should be accepting and curious as well, seeking to prepare individuals for using tools on their own. My journey to mental healthcare I worked in several areas of alternative health in the past, which drew me to an interest in research and teaching. I discovered that I really enjoyed the diagnostic side of psychology and navigated toward helping others due to the demand and satisfaction in watching others grow into themselves. My goals for you I work for you—you determine your goals, and we discuss ways to reach them. Even if the goal is to just feel better, a therapeutic relationship can help promote exploration that leads to relief.
