Getting to know Dale Ryder

I am Dale Ryder, LCSW, and I look forward to assisting you on your healing journey. I utilize a needs-based approach to guiding and managing mental health concerns, including trauma, depression, anxiety, and related issues. When one is able to release patterns from the past and redefine needs, the body can resource itself and be fully present. My approach involves assessing actual needs and focusing on meeting those rather than wounded needs. This includes parts work-exploring how different parts adapted and began to function from the wound. A strengths-based perspective is then applied to perceived weaknesses, allowing a new definition of self and needs to emerge. I primarily work with trauma patients, families, and couples experiencing depression and anxiety. My communication style is calm and present, offering clients the space to express whatever they may need. I also incorporate energy work and can provide guided imagery if desired. My journey to mental healthcare began early, as I was always seen as a counselor-even in high school-helping friends through difficult times. My initial goal was to help at-risk youth, which led me to earn a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. I worked in probation with youth and adults, but soon realized that the counselor and empath in me needed a different way to assist. This realization led me to pursue a Master's in Social Work from Arizona State University. My goals for you in therapy will center around identifying unmet needs and exploring how to meet them. You will share your intentions for therapy, and together we will create a needs list based on those goals. In our first session, you will share your reason for seeking assistance and any other relevant information. You will be encouraged to discuss a current event that has been activating for you, and we will use a reactivity chart to map thoughts, feelings, and reactions, along with some education on the neurobiology of reaction in the body.
