Getting to know Damien Beauchemin

Hi there! My name is Damien Beauchemin, and I am an LMFT living in Humboldt County, California. I earned my Master’s in Counseling from Argosy University. I've done my best work with those who are a little nerdy, quirky, and fringe. I use solution-focused, cognitive, and forward-focused methods for therapy. I believe a person can best move beyond their issues by focusing on making the best tomorrow they can. My approach I focus on what someone can do internally in the present and steps they can take to make better choices and plans for the future. I look at what a person is thinking, why, and how to help them reframe, change, or progress beyond negative (maladaptive) thoughts (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, DBT, etc.). Then I use methods like Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Choice Theory, and the like to alter behaviors and patterns to improve life. I also can just be a kind, non-judgmental ear when needed. My focus I've worked with a wide range of clients. Raised in the foster care system, I've done a lot of work with people with similar experiences and those beyond the "nuclear family unit." I enjoy working with the LGBTQ community, nerdy and geeky folks, and anyone with a darker sense of humor who can laugh and find the brighter side of their issues. I have worked extensively with depression, anxiety, PTSD, personality disorders, gender identity, questioning sexuality, and relationship issues. I have also worked with people with developmental disorders and those on the Autism Spectrum.
