Getting to know Damitra Smith

Hi there, I'm Damitra! I am Damitra Smith, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor based in Katy, Texas, working with clients statewide via telehealth. I hold both my Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in Counseling from Prairie View A&M University. I work with children, adolescents, and adults, specializing in depression, anxiety, ADHD, codependency, and substance abuse/addiction. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, and Acceptance Therapy to help my clients achieve their goals. My approach My approach to therapy varies depending on my clients’ needs. I use Client-Centered Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy while taking a holistic approach to their lives. I believe that addressing every area of a client’s life can help them move forward and meet their therapeutic goals. My focus I have found that my style and holistic approach are especially helpful for clients from preteens to adults who are adjusting to life transitions and stressors or struggling with ADHD. These challenges often come with bouts of anxiety, depression, guilt, shame, and codependency. I help my clients build the skills needed to weather the storm and come out stronger on the other side. My approach fosters a more positive outlook on life and supports clients in reaching their goals. My communication style My communication style is warm, direct, and personable. Clients view therapy as their safe space, and I create an atmosphere where they feel comfortable. My sessions are a no-judgment zone. My journey to mental healthcare I believe becoming a therapist was my calling. I enjoy helping people and have always been fascinated by the study of people in their environment, the mind, and human behavior. My deep interest comes from a lifelong desire to help others. I love making a difference, and if I can help just one person in this lifetime, I feel I have accomplished something great.
