Psychotherapist
CA
Hello, I'm Dana Dart-McLean, LMFT, a psychotherapist trained in Expressive Arts Therapy with a Master’s degree from the California Institute of Integral Studies. I use somatic (body-awareness-based), attachment-focused, and client-centered therapy to support people in overcoming challenges and moving forward with personal growth. I specialize in helping individuals with anxiety, depression, ADHD/neurodivergence, trauma, grief, relationships, and life transitions. My approach I incorporate somatic therapy, including mindfulness and polyvagal theory-informed grounding tools, to help you become aware of your unique nervous system and patterns of holding emotions in the body. These techniques are effective for ADHD, trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and life struggles because they support you in clarifying your thoughts, feelings, and sensations. I also draw from psychodynamic, attachment-focused, and strengths-based approaches. My focus I work well with people interested in solving problems by deepening their self-understanding. This involves exploring family and relationship patterns as well as the beliefs you hold about yourself. With compassion and self-trust, understanding yourself makes it clearer how to implement effective coping tools and make positive life choices. As a painter and trained Expressive Art Therapist, I connect well with creatives and those who see overcoming life challenges as a creative process. My communication style I take an interactive, relational, and warm approach in therapy. We are all human, and it’s okay to struggle. I believe everyone deserves a compassionate, nonjudgmental space to explore their thoughts, feelings, and sensations to gain clarity on how to move forward. I welcome feedback about what works and what doesn’t in therapy. I encourage self-reflection on your feelings and support you in communicating your needs. Therapy is a space to practice being holistically yourself and expressing what you want and need.
