What should a new client know about working with you?

Regarding addictive sexual behaviors, compulsions, phobias, relationship wounds, chronic pain, performance anxiety or specific phobias… I understand the devastating impact these behaviors can have on your life and relationships. If you’re struggling with these issues, you’ve likely felt trapped in a cycle of shame, guilt, and low self-esteem. To support your healing journey, we’ll assess your situation, establish safeguards, identify triggers, explore desires and fantasies, and promote healthy intimacy. For couples… My approach with couples follows a three-stage process rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Uncovering relationship cycles… We’ll help you understand the patterns in your relationship, identify the underlying emotions and needs, and validate those needs. Reconnecting with your emotions… We’ll work on re-establishing a connection with your own needs and nurturing emotional engagement by embracing acceptance of one another. If you’ve had enough of the pain in your life… If you’re tired of being held back by your compulsions… If you’re longing for the intimacy you deserve… I’m here to help you confront and address the issues affecting your life. ( I am in the office Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings only in Thousand Oaks and Online/Telehealth all week for the entire state of California.)

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In therapy, you get a safe, judgment-free space to address the issues that are holding you back—whether it’s trauma, sex addiction, chronic pain, performance anxiety, phobias, complex trauma, or relationship struggles. We work directly on the experiences, memories, and patterns driving your distress. Using EMDR and other evidence-based approaches, we target the thoughts, urges, and sensations that keep you stuck. You’ll learn to respond differently, break old patterns, and regain control over your behavior and emotions. This work helps you process what’s painful, build resilience, and strengthen your sense of self. Step by step, you move toward healthier relationships, clearer focus, and the ability to live with confidence, purpose, and freedom.

I am so thankful for this counselor. Dan Banaitis is incredibly down to earth and very easy to talk to! He is incredibly professional, but very easy going and quickly built a safe counseling environment. After working with Mr. B for nearly a year, I would recommend him to my closest friends and family. He helped me to see the humanity in my struggles. Dan regularly provides me with valuable counseling, as well as outside readings and resources for me to explore.
