What should a new client know about working with you?

If you find yourself overwhelmed, overthinking, getting stuck in thought spirals, uncontrolled doubts, intrusive thoughts, or coping with lingering feelings of restlessness or wrongness, therapy really can help. I can guide you through tools to help you reduce the mental load and develop skills to manage unwanted habits like bed rotting or avoidance, keeping you from your best self. I use an open, conversational style that allows us to move into what you need in the moment, whether that is psychoeducation, open questions that invite reflection, or more directive questions to discover the function of behavior or thought patterns in day-to-day life. I am transparent about the interventions I use, including the 'therapy-speak', and provide rationale so you are always in the loop on the 'whys' in treatment. Authentic emotions are welcome in my sessions; you can bring humor and tears and everything in between. You can also trust that I will not be a blank slate in return.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Ever since my first psychology class in high school, I have been deeply interested in the brain and how humans work. That interest led me first to psychology and then to the practical world of social work. I have 10 years of experience as a social worker assisting those with chronic mental health struggles before moving on to become a licensed provider for 5 years, working with adults experiencing situational distress, grief, depression, trauma, and anxiety. In that time, I have developed a specialty in OCD, anxiety, phobias, and related symptoms, including hair pulling and skin picking. As a grounded and positive therapist, I will be there with you as we safely explore the experiences, patterns, and fears that might be limiting your daily life. This work will identify your strengths, connect with your core values, and help you use your power to get closer to who you want to be, no matter what life throws at you. I always set out to provide a free 15-minute phone consultation to provide an overview of treatment and make sure potential clients are confident that we are a good match. I hope that this introduction also sets an easy tone for our first session, where we will explore both the pain points and the things that are going well in your life. This full picture will help us define your goals and hopes, not just for the absence of symptoms, but also how to thrive beyond treatment.
