David Bales, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm David! Welcome! My name is Dave Bales, and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist with a Master's in Clinical Psychology from Azusa Pacific University. I work with adult individuals and specialize in the areas of depression, life transitions, vocation, and spirituality. My goal as a people helper is to provide a safe therapeutic context in which to identify and move beyond the emotional, psychological, relational, and spiritual issues that impede your process of self-discovery. My approach While I tend to utilize an eclectic approach to working with clients, I find the client-centered, interpersonal, and psychodynamic approaches to be particularly useful. The client-centered approach to therapy is non-directive and allows the client to guide sessions. The interpersonal approach utilizes the therapeutic relationship forged between client and therapist to effectively learn new ways of relating to others. Finally, the psychodynamic approach assists clients with identifying and exploring patterns in behavior and relationships and understanding emotions. My focus I have many years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. However, at this stage of my career, my focus is on working exclusively with the adult population. While I have the training and experience to work with many different issues, I have a special interest in the areas of depression, life transitions, vocation, and spirituality. My communication style I engage clients with a sense of warmth and genuineness. It is important to me to create a therapeutic experience wherein clients feel safe to explore their inner selves without fear of judgment or shame. Appropriate self-disclosure is often a part of my sessions with clients. Engaging clients with authenticity fosters a feeling of safety which ultimately helps to dismantle the emotional and psychological barriers to positive change and personal growth.
