Getting to know David Cowart
David Cowart is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Tennessee who has been practicing since 2016. He holds a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Western Seminary. David believes good therapy is built on a strong, empathic relationship with the client. You are the expert in your life and experiences. His goal is to come alongside you and help you understand the story you have been living. We all have basic needs in our lives. When those needs go unmet, we experience pain. We then develop ways of coping with that pain. This is how David makes sense of a client's symptoms and struggles. He creates a safe environment where clients can explore these unmet needs, their pain, and the behaviors that are giving them trouble. David is specifically trained in treating Sex Addiction and Pornography Addiction.
As a certified Schema Therapist and Certified Sex Addiction Therapist Candidate, he has the skills to help people who struggle and need recovery from these behaviors. David also has experience and training in helping the partners of those who struggle with unwanted sexual behaviors. Trauma and past painful experiences often sabotage our present functioning. David helps clients process these experiences with EMDR, Brainspotting, and Imagery techniques. The more freedom we have from these memories, the more freedom we have to live fully, in the present. In his personal time, David has played music all his life. He is regularly found at different concert venues in Music City. He is also a big sports fan, with a soft spot in his heart for the Tennessee Volunteers.
