David Hafter, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
I am an LMFT (California license 24935). I have been licensed since 1989. My approach for individuals is solution-focused and oriented, setting clear goals with you and building on your strengths to address your issues. I am also very well-versed in couples and/or family therapy. I have decades of experience working with adolescents and young adults. My approach My areas of expertise include brief therapy, couples, and family therapy. An individual’s issues are often connected to unresolved issues/trauma from the past so addressing these areas brings the freedom of other ways of being for the client. The clearest and most simple way of understanding my approach is this: My job is to help you come up with alternative ways of thinking and behaving that might work better than what you are doing now. My focus I work with many clients who are going through a life transition of some sort: new or changing relationships and the evolving roles people play, parenting issues, career changes, health challenges, and so on. I work with many families with school-aged children. I also have an expertise in men’s issues. I address process issues; how you address the problems that come your way. If I can help you to feel confident that you can handle the challenges life’s brings you, then I have done my job. My communication style I like to be straightforward in my approach to therapy. I believe that people can successfully address their issues but sometimes these skills need to be uncovered and nurtured. My journey to mental healthcare I figured out two things very early, as in during childhood: 1) I cared about people and the problems that kept them from experiencing happiness and 2) I found that people opened up to me easily. In graduate school, I became very interested in family therapy (and even when seeing an individual, I think in terms of their families of origin and current families).
