Getting to know Deborah Malloy

Deborah (Debbie) Malloy, LPCC, is a clinical mental health counselor and Recreation Therapist with years of experience working in multiple settings to assist individuals in improving their mental health and realizing their goals. She holds a Master's in Clinical Counseling from Walden University and a Master's in Recreational Therapy from the University of North Carolina. Debbie utilizes a person-centered approach that is non-judgmental, empathetic, and respectful. Her eclectic methods include EMDR, CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed treatment, and aspects of Impact Theory, Gestalt theory, Feminist theory, and Multicultural Theory to help clients manage challenging issues. My approach My orientation is client recovery, using psychotherapeutic interventions, education, and clients' own strengths, spirituality, and resilience to help them meet their goals. Clients become empowered to improve their mental health and quality of life while gaining mastery over challenging emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Validating clients' needs and goals is essential, and maintaining a strong therapeutic alliance is critical to my practice. EMDR is a key protocol I use to assist those facing challenges related to trauma memories. CBT and DBT help clients manage cognitive distortions, automatic negative thoughts, regulate emotions, and constructively address distress and communication issues. I encourage mindfulness, coping strategies, and self-soothing tools to enhance quality of life and empower clients to stay healthy. Motivational Interviewing and other approaches support those in recovery to embrace a clean and sober lifestyle. I also incorporate the importance of leisure pursuits for all individuals.
