Deborah Marlin, LPC

Psychotherapist
TX
Hi there, I'm Deborah! My father was a pilot in the Air Force and flew in Vietnam. We lived in different states and countries, including Japan. I have a diverse background and enjoy understanding different cultures. I was a voice major in Austin during the seventies, also singing in a band. Then I changed my focus. I moved from Austin to Houston, to Missouri, then Germany, and back to Houston. I now find myself living on a ranch in rural Texas. I have been a rodeo mom, learning to ride a horse at 40, but I leave the ranch duties to my husband, who is retired from the music industry. I have two daughters and four grandchildren with whom I spend a lot of time. I earned my MEd in Counseling from the University of Missouri, which has shaped my approach to therapy. My approach I find counseling to be a fascinating endeavor that requires skill but also creativity to meet the needs of each individual. I use what fits each client or circumstance, involving elements of cognitive behavior, trauma-informed, attachment, empowerment, and mindfulness approaches. My focus I have worked with a broad range of problems including serious mental illness, anger, abuse and trauma, toxic relationships, self-esteem, self-development, and everything in between. I usually build on strengths while promoting clarity and healthy boundaries. Overthinking and negative thinking are frequently issues leading to anxiety and depression. We may examine triggers, explore relationship patterns, promote emotional regulation, and improve self-care. My communication style I believe that I create an environment of acceptance and trust where anything can be addressed. I am direct but warm. My goals for you This is a collaboration with you driving the direction of our sessions. My first session with you When we first meet, we will just get to know each other and explore potential areas of focus. We will set up some guidelines. This is a safe space.
